KATHMANDU, AUGUST 25
The death toll from monsoon-induced disasters in the country since June 10 has reached 203, according to Nepal Police. This figure accounts for fatalities reported up until Sunday afternoon.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and Nepal Police Spokesperson Dan Bahadur Karki reported that three people died in the Kathmandu Valley, 28 in Koshi Province, eight in Madhesh Province, and 42 in Bagmati Province.
Gandaki Province recorded the highest number of fatalities at 56, followed by 37 in Lumbini Province, 13 in Karnali Province, and 16 in Sudurpaschim Province.
Karki further informed that 251 people sustained injuries in landslides and floods during this period. Among them, 11 were injured in the Kathmandu Valley, 38 in Koshi Province, 12 in Madhesh Province, and 28 in Bagmati Province. Additionally, 47 were injured in Gandaki Province, 19 in Lumbini Province, 62 in Karnali Province, and 34 in Sudurpaschim Province.
Rescue operations conducted by security agencies have saved the lives of 210 vulnerable individuals from various locations since the onset of the monsoon this year.
However, 154 people remain missing, and search operations are ongoing, added DIG Karki.
The disasters have caused widespread inundation and damaged several infrastructures, including 408 houses, 123 cowsheds, 52 bridges, six schools, and two government office buildings, according to the police.
Furthermore, 924 livestock were lost due to the floods and landslides, and the disasters have displaced 6,044 households over the past two months, police reported.
