KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 19

The first day of Dharahara's reopening to the public drew a large crowd eager to climb the historic and iconic tower.

Tickets for the climb have already been booked through the upcoming Sunday, according to Koshnath Adhikari, Chief of the Central Project Implementation Unit under the Urban Development and Building Construction Department.

The government temporarily opened the Dharahara in commemoration of Constitution Day.

Dharahara, which was destroyed by the 2015 Gorkha earthquake, has been rebuilt to its original structure and reopened after nine years, attracting a significant crowd on the first day, posing challenges for security management.

Adhikari noted, 'Arrangements were made for 600 people to climb the tower daily for free, but on the first day, 1,200 people ascended.'

Reconstruction of Dharahara began on Aswin 14, 2075 BS, led by the National Reconstruction Authority. The tower was inaugurated by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Baishakh 11, 2078 BS.

Additionally, the Central Project Implementation Unit has launched the website 'dharahara.com.gov.np' for ticket booking.

The original 61.88-meter-high, 11-story Dharahara was first constructed in 1882 BS on the orders of Maharani Lalit Tripurasundari by General Bhimsen Thapa. It was rebuilt after being damaged in the 1934 earthquake.
