KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 26

CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal stated that his party is gaining popularity due to its emphasis on good governance and anti-corruption measures during its leadership in government.

Speaking at the 23rd national conclave of ANNISU (Revolutionary) on Thursday, Dahal urged party members to focus on making the Maoist Centre the largest political force in the upcoming general elections.

He argued that his government was ousted because of bold decisions aimed at promoting good governance and curbing corruption, citing reforms like action taken in the fake Bhutanese refugee case, preventing the Bansbari land encroachment, and ensuring merit-based appointments at Tribhuvan University.

Dahal also claimed that the party's international reputation has grown due to his participation in key global forums such as the UNGA and COP-28. He highlighted the adoption of a balanced foreign policy to strengthen bilateral relations with neighboring countries.

Furthermore, Dahal criticized the current government for undermining the political achievements of past movements and expressed optimism about a future alliance among leftist forces.

He believed the students' conclave would make effective decisions to address the country's political crisis, noting that a 'mega campaign' of party-building had already begun, in response to the high public expectations from his party. He called on students to contribute with supportive programs.

ANNISU (Revolutionary) In-Charge Himal Sharma announced that the Union's leadership would be selected through direct elections, while former Union Chair Ranjit Tamang and Nepal Students' Union (NSU) Chairman Dujang Sherpa also addressed the event.
