Monsoon reaches Lumbini; Heavy rain likely in Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces

The monsoon has now reached Lumbini Province and parts of Gandaki, marking its gradual spread across eastern and central Nepal. This advancement is expected to bring heavy rain and thunderstorms in several regions, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM).
As per the monsoon onset bulletin issued by the DHM on Thursday evening, this year's monsoon system has entered the remaining parts of Koshi Province, Madhesh Province, Bagmati Province, some parts of Gandaki Province, and the eastern parts of Lumbini Province.
This year the monsoon entered four days later than average on May 29, the DHM added.
The DHM has indicated that it may take a few more days for the monsoon to reach the rest of the country, including parts of western Nepal.
Weather forecast today
Today afternoon, heavy rainfall is likely at one or two locations in Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki Provinces, with light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning expected at several places within these regions.
People in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas are urged to remain cautious.
The Kathmandu Valley will experience partly to generally cloudy skies, with brief rain or thundershowers likely in the afternoon. The chance of rain stands at 60% during the day, decreasing to 40% overnight, as the weather pattern continues.
During the night, light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely at a few places in Madhesh, Gandaki, and Sudurpashchim Provinces, and some hilly regions across the country.
Light rain or snowfall may also occur in the high hilly and Himalayan areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki Provinces, and at isolated spots elsewhere.
The current weather conditions are influenced by monsoonal winds across eastern and central Nepal, and by westerly and local wind systems in the western region. These systems will continue shaping Nepal's weather in the coming days.
