The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has resumed exporting 40 megawatts (MW) of electricity from Nepal to Bangladesh through Indian transmission lines starting today, June 15. This follows a 12-hour pilot export on July 15 last year.

The export is under a power sale agreement signed between NEA, Bangladesh Power Development Board, and India's NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited last year. This year, NEA plans to export electricity to Bangladesh for five months, until November 15.

According to NEA, 146.88 million units will be exported during this period, generating revenue of Rs 1.29 billion. The electricity will be delivered from Nepal's 400 KV Dhalkebar Substation to Bangladesh's Bhermara Substation via Muzaffarpur and Behrampur in India. The agreed selling price is 6.40 US cents per unit.

Meanwhile, NEA continues to export electricity to India, increasing exports to Haryana from 185 MW (since June 1) to 200 MW from last Saturday. The selling rate under the Nepal-India bilateral agreement is Rs 5.25 per unit.

Additionally, NEA began exporting 80 MW to Bihar from midnight yesterday. Extra electricity is also traded through the Dhalkebar-Muzaffarpur 400 kV and 132 kV lines.
