KATHMANDU, JULY 8
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli conducted an on-site inspection of flood-affected areas and assessed the damage to public property caused by the swollen Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa district. He returned to the Capital following the inspection.
During the visit, Prime Minister Oli held discussions with local administrators, elected representatives, and residents regarding the extent of damage, ongoing rescue efforts, and relief measures.
The Prime Minister also expressed concern over those reported missing in the flood, the damage to the Rasuwagadhi Customs dry port along the Nepal–China border, and the loss incurred after floodwaters swept away several goods-laden trucks.
As of now, 20 individuals remain missing, including three Nepal Police personnel, five truck drivers, six dry port workers, and six Chinese nationals.
Additionally, the Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project (111 MW) and the Chilime Hydropower Project (20 MW) sustained significant damage, resulting in the suspension of electricity generation at both facilities.
The floodwaters of the Lhende River also swept away the Miteri Bridge at the Nepal–China border, severing cross-border connectivity in the area.
Prime Minister Oli was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, Energy Minister Dipak Khadka, Chief Advisor Bishnu Prasad Rimal, Chief Secretary Eaknarayan Aryal, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Chen Song, and the chiefs of all four security agencies.
