KATHMANDU, JULY 9
Bodies of eight out of nine people killed in Tuesday's flash floods in Rasuwa have been brought to Kathmandu for post-mortem at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj.
Only one victim has been identified so far, according to Nepal Police Headquarters Spokesperson, Deputy Inspector General Binod Ghimire. The last rites for the identified individual were performed on Wednesday.
Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police Lal Bahadur Shrestha, who had gone missing in the floods, was found dead on the banks of the Trishuli River at a location known as '15 Kilo' in Chitwan. His body was handed over to his family, who performed his final rites.
Nineteen people are still reported missing in the disaster. A DNA test is being conducted to identify the remaining bodies.
Among the missing are two police personnel, six Chinese nationals, and eleven civilians. The flash floods swept away the Miteri Bridge on the Nepal–China border, along with 24 containers, six trucks, and 35 electric vehicles.
Search operations are ongoing along riverbanks in various districts, said Sanjay Singh Thapa, Spokesperson for the Bagmati Province Police Office. Meanwhile, rescue efforts are also underway to assist people stranded in different parts of Rasuwa.
