KATHMANDU, JULY 29
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall across several parts of the country today, particularly in the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki Provinces.
According to DHM, the weather will remain generally cloudy nationwide throughout the day. Moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely in many areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki Provinces, as well as in some Terai regions. There is a chance of heavy rainfall at one or two places in the hilly regions of these provinces, potentially causing waterlogging and an increased risk of landslides in vulnerable areas.
Tonight, Lumbini Province and the hilly regions of the country will experience generally cloudy conditions, while other parts will remain partly cloudy. Moderate rain with thunder and lightning is expected at a few locations in Lumbini Province and some hilly and Terai areas.
Meteorologists have attributed the wet conditions to the active monsoon system currently affecting the entire country, with the monsoon trough positioned around its average location in the west and slightly northward in the east.
In Kathmandu Valley, the afternoon is expected to be generally cloudy with rain and thundershowers, with temperatures ranging between 26°C and 28°C and a 40% chance of rainfall. Night conditions are forecast to be partly cloudy with brief showers and a minimum temperature of 19°C to 21°C.
Authorities have advised residents in hilly areas to remain alert for possible landslides and flash floods due to the likelihood of heavy rainfall in localized spots.
