Forecast warns of flooding and landslide risks; gusty winds expected in southern plains
KATHMANDU, JULY 27
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast widespread rainfall and cloudy skies across the country due to the continued influence of the monsoon system. In its 8:00 AM bulletin issued Sunday, the department reported that the monsoon trough remains close to its average position, sustaining the conditions for moderate to heavy rainfall in multiple regions.
The day is expected to remain generally overcast throughout the country. Moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is forecast in various hilly areas, with isolated heavy rainfall likely in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim Provinces.
Meanwhile, gusty winds are anticipated in the Terai regions of Madhesh and Lumbini Provinces.
Tonight, the forecast indicates continued cloud cover and scattered rain. Moderate rain is likely in several hill areas, with heavy downpours probable in parts of Koshi and Sudurpaschim Provinces. The rest of the country may see light to moderate showers.
For Kathmandu Valley, the weather will remain generally cloudy with rain or thundershowers. The maximum temperature is expected to range between 28 and 30 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature at night will be between 21 and 23 degrees. The likelihood of rainfall is estimated at 60 percent during the day and 70 percent at night.
