Heavy rainfall likely in parts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces; Kathmandu Valley to see showers and thunderstorms

KATHMANDU, JULY 28

Nepal is expected to experience generally cloudy skies and widespread rainfall throughout the day and night, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM). Monsoon activity remains active across the country, with the monsoon trough positioned near the average location in the west and slightly north of average in the east.

For today afternoon, moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely at many places in Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces, especially across the hilly regions, and at some locations in the Terai region. The DHM has also warned of heavy rainfall at one or two spots in the Terai of Koshi Province, and in the hilly areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces.

Tonight, the country will remain generally cloudy, with moderate rain and thunderstorms expected at some places in Gandaki and Sudurpaschim provinces, particularly in the hilly regions, and at a few locations in the Terai. One or two places in the hilly region of Gandaki Province are at risk of experiencing heavy downpours.

In Kathmandu Valley, DHM forecasts generally cloudy skies with chances of rain and thundershowers in the afternoon. The maximum temperature is expected to range between 26–28°C, with a 60% chance of precipitation. During the night, the weather will remain cloudy with similar chances of rain, and the minimum temperature will hover between 19–21°C.
