KATHMANDU, JULY 16
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has predicted widespread rainfall across multiple provinces today, with chances of heavy to very heavy rain in parts of Koshi, Bagmati, and Lumbini Provinces.
The monsoon system continues to influence weather patterns across the country, with the monsoon trough lying slightly north of the average position in eastern Nepal and near the average location in the west.
According to the DHM, light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely at many places in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini Provinces, while some areas in other provinces may also experience rainfall. A few places in Koshi Province and isolated areas of Bagmati and Lumbini are likely to witness heavy to very heavy downpours. There is also a chance of light snowfall or rainfall at a few places in the high hilly and mountainous regions. Additionally, wind gusts are expected at a few locations in Madesh Province and the Terai areas of Koshi Province.
For tonight, the weather is expected to remain partly to generally cloudy throughout the country. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely at several places in Koshi, Madesh, and Sudur Pashchim Provinces as well as in the hilly regions, and at some places elsewhere. Heavy rain is likely at one or two places of Koshi, Madesh, and Sudur Pashchim Provinces. Light snowfall or rain may continue in some high hilly and mountainous areas. Wind gusts are also expected at a few locations of Madesh Province during the night.
In the Kathmandu Valley, generally cloudy skies with rain or thundershowers are expected both this afternoon and tonight, with a 60% chance of rainfall. Pokhara is expected to continue receiving the highest likelihood of rain, with a 70% probability during both the day and night.
The DHM advises the public and concerned authorities to remain alert, especially in areas with high rainfall forecasts, due to the potential risk of floods, landslides, and waterlogging.
