NEPSE drops by 41 points amid broad market decline

KATHMANDU, AUGUST 5

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) continued its downward trend on Tuesday, sliding by 41.35 points or 1.43% to close at 2,834 points by the end of the trading session.

The Sensitive Index, which tracks Class 'A' stocks, dropped 1.30%, while the Float Index, measuring actively traded shares, also declined 1.39%.

Sector-wise, the market witnessed a broad sell-off, with only Microfinance (+0.50%) and Mutual Fund (+0.18%) recording slight gains. The 'Others' sector suffered the largest loss at 2.83%, followed by the Development Bank sector with a 2.55% decline.

Daily turnover also dropped to Rs 9.33 billion, with 22,207,122 units of shares of 325 companies changing hands across 130,952 transactions.

By market close, only 46 stocks advanced, while 204 declined. Three Star Hydropower Limited (TSHL) hit a 10% lower circuit break, whereas Samaj Laghubittya Bittiya Sanstha Limited (SAMAJ) and Unnati Sahakarya Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (USLB) reached the 10% upper circuit limit.

The total market capitalization at the end of the trading day stood at Rs 4.739 trillion.
