Benchmark index closes at 2,858.90 on first trading day of the week
KATHMANDU, AUGUST 3
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index continued its downward momentum on Sunday, declining by 63.73 points (2.18%) to close at 2,858.90 points on the first trading day of the week. The market had already shed 31.50 points on Thursday, the final trading day of last week.
The Sensitive Index, which tracks Class 'A' stocks, slipped 2.07 percent, while the Float Index, reflecting actively traded shares, fell by 2.10 percent.
Broad-based losses were recorded across most sectors, with the 'Other' sector leading the decline at 3.48 percent, followed by Microfinance (3.05%), Manufacturing and Processing (2.43%), Investment (2.19%), Life Insurance (2.16%), and Banking (2.27%).
Market turnover also decreased, with Rs 13.07 billion worth of shares traded, down from Rs 15.98 billion on Thursday. A total of 32,260,341 shares from 319 companies changed hands through 152,518 transactions.
By market close, only 16 stocks gained, while 233 stocks declined, bringing the overall market capitalization to Rs 4.772 trillion.
