KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 8

The Sunsari District Administration has issued an indefinite curfew order in Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City effective from 3:30 p.m. Monday, following the escalation of Gen Z protests against corruption and the government's social media ban.

The curfew, declared under Section 6(a) of the Local Administration Act, 2028, prohibits movement, gatherings, demonstrations, assemblies, and processions within the following boundaries:

North: Nepali Army Barracks to Pahurakhor Chowk

East: Milan Chowk to Jut Bikash

South: CIAA Office (south), Transport Office, Sixty Petrol Pump, Pushpalal Chowk to Bus Park area

West: Kalki Mod to Janata Basti

The order, signed by Chief District Officer Dharmendra Kumar Mishra, will remain in effect until further notice.

This comes after clashes broke out in Itahari on Monday as protesters attempted to defy restrictions and demonstrate in the city.

Earlier, the Kathmandu District Administration imposed in key areas after demonstrators stormed the Federal Parliament premises. Similarly, a curfew was ordered in Pokhara's Shahid Chowk and adjoining areas from 2 p.m., following vandalism at the Chief Minister's Office.

The protests, led by Gen Z youths, have spread across multiple cities including Biratnagar, Butwal, Chitwan, Pokhara, and Jhapa, intensifying confrontations with security forces nationwide.
