122 escaped prisoners arrested from Kathmandu

KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 16

Police have arrested 122 fugitives from across the Kathmandu Valley who had escaped from various prisons during the Gen-Z protest demonstrations on September 9, authorities said on Wednesday.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ramesh Thapa, chief of the Kathmandu District Police Office, the arrests were made through coordinated operations by the District Police Range Kathmandu, the Valley Crime Investigation Office, and its subordinate teams.

Among those apprehended, 35 were convicted of theft, 30 of narcotics offences, 17 of rape, 12 of attempted murder, 6 of kidnapping, and 3 each of culpable homicide, robbery, vehicular manslaughter, organised crime, polygamy, and banking offences. One was convicted of human trafficking, while three others faced other charges.

Of the total, 112 are men and 10 are women. SSP Thapa said police are continuing the search for remaining escapees, urging the public to report any information about fugitives to the nearest police post or by calling the 100 hotline.
