KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 28

The Government of Germany has pledged €39,000 in assistance to support communities affected by the recent devastating floods in Ilam district, eastern Nepal.

According to a press release issued by the German Embassy in Kathmandu, the grant agreement was signed between German Ambassador to Nepal Udo Volz and Deutsche Welthungerhilfe for an Emergency Relief Support Project aimed at providing lifesaving assistance and strengthening community resilience against future disasters.

Shakeb Nabi, Country Director of Deutsche Welthungerhilfe, signed the agreement on behalf of the organization. The project will target highly affected households, with a special focus on marginalized groups, women, and children. Support will include the distribution of food supplies, mattresses, tarpaulins, warm clothing, dignity kits, and blankets.

The relief initiative will be implemented locally by Rural Reconstruction Nepal (RRN) in coordination with local authorities and community representatives. The project is scheduled for completion by December 2025.

Reaffirming Germany's continued commitment to Nepal, Ambassador Volz said the assistance underscores solidarity with those impacted by natural disasters. During the September 2024 floods, Germany had also contributed €100,000 for disaster response in Sarlahi and Rautahat districts, implemented through One Heart World-Wide.
