Women outnumber men in PR

KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 6 Over 400 female candidates, more than male, have been added to the closed list for the upcoming House of Representatives election using the proportional representation (PR) electoral system. According to EC Assistant Spokesperson Kul Bahadur GC, the closed list includes 3,135 candidates, with 1,772 women and 1,363 men. The Election Commission (EC)'s closed list of candidates also shows that there are more male candidates among adults than female candidates among youth. There are 168 candidates in the 25 to 29 age group (117 women and 51 men), 285 in the 30 to 40 age group (201 women and 84 men), 401 in the 35 to 39 age group (268 women and 133 men), and 535 in the 40 to 44 age group (341 women and 194 men). Similarly, there are 294 women and 162 men, totalling 456 candidates, in the 45 to 49 age group; 220 women and 166 men, totalling 386 candidates, in the 50 to 54 age group; 155 women and 200 men, totalling 355, in the 55 to 59 age group; 103 women and 158 men, totalling 261 candidates, in the 60 to 64 age group; 44 women and 114 men, totalling 158 candidates, in the 65 to 69 age group; 19 women and 67 men, totalling 86 candidates, in the 70 to 74 age group; nine women and There are also 425 candidates from the Dalit quota, 203 from the Tharu community, 502 from the Madhesi category, 148 from Muslim communities, 911 from the Indigenous and Nationalities category, and 946 from the Khas Arya category under the PR list's inclusive groups. The EC received the closed lists of candidates from sixty-four political parties on December 28 and 29. Of them, only 22 parties put forward nominees for each of the 110 constituencies. Based on complaints about the candidates on the closed list that political parties submitted to the Office of the Election Officer for the proportional representation system of the House of Representatives elections, the EC made the decision to remove the names of 76 candidates from the list.
