Eight aspirant guides undergo IFMGA Diploma Training in Manang

KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 26 The Final Diploma Course of the Mountain Guide Certification Course (MGCC)–2026, accredited by the International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations (IFMGA/UIAGM/IVBV), has commenced in Manang for aspirant guides of the 2022/23 batch. According to the Nepal National Mountain Guide Association (NNMGA), the 19-day intensive training - excluding approach and return days - will formally begin on February 25 in the vicinity of Mt. Chulu East (6,584m). The programme includes practical field sessions, refresher modules, continuous assessments and final examinations. The training team departed for the venue earlier this week and was seen off on February 22 by NNMGA Vice President Lakpa Sherpa and General Secretary Pimba Tenjing Bhote. Officials of the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA), including Second Vice President Bodh Raj Bhandari, General Secretary Rajendra Lama and Chief Executive Officer Jinesh Sindurakar, were also present. The course is being led by Senior Instructor Lambabu Sherpa as Education Chief, supported by instructors Jyamchang Bhote, Pasang Kaji Sherpa, Lopsang Sherpa and Pemba Rita Sherpa. Eight eligible NNMGA aspirant guides are participating in the diploma-level training. The IFMGA-accredited programme is jointly organised by NNMGA and NMA in collaboration with the Nepal Mountain Academy as a strategic partner, under the international federation's framework. The certification is regarded as the highest professional qualification for mountain guides and is expected to enhance international standards and safety practices in Nepal's mountaineering sector.
