Two men were killed after an LPG truck hit a motorcycle in Jitpur Simara Sub-Metropolitan City-23 of Bara district last night.
Police identified the deceased as 35-year-old Rabindra Upadhyay of Birgunj Metropolitan City-15 and 30-year-old Dilip Chaudhary of Karaiyamai Rural Municipality-7. Both sustained serious injuries and were taken to Narayani Hospital in Birgunj, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
The accident occurred when a truck (Na 3 Kha 5610) carrying LPG from Aerotech Gas Company on the Birgunj–Pathlaiya road section entered the expressway from the eastern service lane and struck a motorcycle (Na 43 Pa 5122) travelling from Jitpur towards Birgunj.
Police said they are investigating which of the two deceased was riding the motorcycle. The truck and its driver, 58-year-old Sunil Raj Pathak of Bharatpur Metropolitan City-7, have been taken into custody.
According to Bara District Police Chief Narendra Kunwar, the truck and driver are being held at the Area Police Office, Simara, while the motorcycle is at the Area Police Office, Jitpur. Further investigation is underway.
