KATHMANDU, MARCH 2 Nepathya, Nepal's premier folk-rock band, enthralled the Nepali diaspora living in and around Siliguri, India, on Saturday. In a statement today, Nepalaya, the band's management company, said, 'This was their first concert outside Nepal in 2026, following a successful tour across four cities in Nepal.' Amrit Gurung, the band's lead singer, addressed the audience, saying, 'Even though our ancestors lived in different places due to their struggles and choices, we still share a linguistic connection.' He added, 'Let us continue this bond for generations by passing on our language to the future.' His remarks were met with enthusiastic cheers from the audience. During the performance, Gurung shared the journeys behind the band's songs, taking the audience on a musical tour across Nepal. Highlights included 'Karnalika Chaila', inspired by tappa, and 'Koshi ko Pani yo Zindagani', rooted in Hakpare, which traced the nation's cultural and musical landscape from its western to eastern corners.
The Siliguri concert, attended predominantly by Nepali-speaking residents of Indian nationality, concluded with the band's signature song 'Gaun-Gaunbat Uth'. Over the course of two hours, Gurung alternated between singing and interacting with the audience, performing 17 songs consecutively. He was supported on stage by Dhruv Lama on drums, Subin Shakya on bass guitar, Neeraj Gurung on guitar, Shanti Rayamajhi on madal, and Dinesh Raj Regmi on keyboards. Following the successful Siliguri performance, the musical, technical, and management teams affiliated with the band returned home.
