KATHMANDU, MARCH 17 As more and more people criticised Interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki's choice to put Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal in the Upper House of the federal parliament and her personal secretary, Aadarsha Kumar Shrestha, in charge of the National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC), a new member of parliament from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) said that Karki's choice was not well thought out and came at the wrong time. PM Karki nominated Shrestha and Aryal yesterday in the NTNC and National Assembly, respectively, while the Rastriya Swatantra Party's new government is expected to take office in a few days with a clear majority. During their orientation workshop for newly elected lawmakers in Kathmandu, The Himalayan Times spoke with a few of them about Interim PM Karki's decision. Everyone condemned the Karki government's decision, saying it is unjust and goes against Gen Z protests. Sudan Gurung, a Gen Z leader who got elected from Gorkha-1, said, 'The prime minister and home minister have insulted and humiliated what we all stood against on September 8 and what our Gen Z brothers died for.' He further said, 'The prime minister should have exited gracefully, but she chose otherwise.' He lamented that Home Minister Aryal took advantage of the Gen Z protest to gain that portfolio, and now he is using it to gain political appointment. 'We strongly condemn this decision made by the interim government.' They also said that the caretaker government should have stayed away from making big decisions about appointments because a new government is coming in a few days. Manish Jha, a spokesperson for the RSP and the new MP for Dhanusha-3, told THT, 'This is the wrong time for the Karki government. We will definitely think about the decision made by the Karki government once our government is in place.' Kabindra Burlakoti, general secretary of the RSP and a newly elected MP from Gorkha-2, stated, 'My views are not official, but I think the new government should have avoided this decision. The public's widespread discussion of this topic needs to be assessed. With this decision, the government seems to have exercised favouritism. The new government will scrutinise it.' Ganesh Parajuli, an RSP MP from Kathmandu-7, told THT that the caretaker government should have thought more carefully before making important decisions. 'We let the people make this decision, but the caretaker government ought to have exercised caution when making important decisions.' Deepak Kumar Sah, an RSP lawmaker elected from Mahottari-2, also echoed the newly elected lawmakers. The interim government's decision has recently drawn widespread criticisms. Earlier, Gen Z leaders such as Raskhya Bam, Tanuja Pandey, Purushotam Yadav, former minister Sumana Shrestha, and independent MP Mahabir Pun, who was elected from Myagdi, condemned the decision and urged PM Karki to protect her image.
