KATHMANDU, MARCH 28 Former Prime Minister and CPN-UML chair KP Sharma Oli was taken to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital on Friday for medical examinations following his arrest earlier in the morning. Hospital spokesperson Dr Gopal Sedhai said Oli is undergoing tests at the emergency ward, including blood tests and X-rays. 'Further steps will be decided after the reports are received,' he said. Oli was arrested from Gundu in Bhaktapur early Friday and briefly held at the District Police Range, Bhadrakali, before being taken to the hospital. Former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak was also arrested from his residence in Bhaktapur and taken to Kathmandu for investigation. Both leaders were detained in line with recommendations of a probe commission led by former justice Gauri Bahadur Karki, which investigated the September Gen Z movement and suggested legal action under criminal law. Home Minister Sudan Gurung said the arrests were not politically motivated. 'No one is above the law. This is not revenge but the beginning of justice,' he stated, expressing confidence that the country would now move in a new direction. Police teams from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office carried out the arrests from Suryabinayak Municipality in Bhaktapur early in the morning.
