Home Ministry team reaches Humla to probe border dispute clash

KATHMANDU, JUNE 1 A committee formed by the Ministry of Home Affairs to investigate the inter-district border dispute between Humla and Bajura and the recent clash at Lampata has arrived in Simkot. The team, led by Senior Superintendent of Police Bimal Raj Paudel, reached Humla on Sunday, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Shankar Khadka of the District Police Office. The committee has been tasked with studying the dispute and the violence that occurred in the border area and submitting its report to the Ministry. During its visit, the team will hold discussions with local residents, people involved in the incident, elected representatives, political party leaders and civil society members in the affected areas. The dispute escalated into clashes between locals of Humla and Bajura from May 16 to 18 following the construction of a police beat at Lampata. The Sudurpashchim Province government had allocated Rs 4 million for the project in the current fiscal year. Four people injured in the clash were later airlifted for treatment. The Home Ministry had formed separate committees on May 25 under Survey Department Deputy Director General Susheel Dangol and SSP Paudel to investigate and address the dispute.
