Border crackdown: Police seize smuggled goods, drugs and three motorcycles; Indian national held

Police in Rautahat have intensified border security operations, seizing smuggled goods, narcotics and three motorcycles, while arresting an Indian national and linking a separate drug investigation to a healthcare facility in Sarlahi.

RAUTAHAT, JULY 6 Rautahat Police have confiscated smuggled goods, narcotics and three motorcycles in separate operations along the Nepal-India border, while arresting an Indian national and uncovering banned pharmaceutical drugs during a follow-up investigation. According to the District Police Office, Rautahat, a joint team from the district police and Mathiya Mahuliya Police Post seized smuggled items worth around Rs 35,800, including Mountain Dew, Sprite and Surf detergent, during a checkpoint operation at Sano Latmari in Ishnath Municipality-4 on Saturday. Police also impounded three motorcycles, including two bearing Indian registration numbers, allegedly used to transport the contraband. The seized goods and vehicles have been handed over to the Gaur Customs Office for further action, said DSP Basanta Gautam, the district police spokesperson. In another operation the same night, police arrested 25-year-old Ram Pravesh Mahato of Sangrampur, Motihari district in Bihar, India, from Bankul of Baudhimai Municipality-7 during a routine patrol. Police recovered 7.23 grams of a substance suspected to be brown heroin and 1.66 kilograms of marijuana from his possession. He remains in custody while further investigation is underway. Meanwhile, police said a follow-up investigation into a drug trafficking case led officers to Sabhyata Health Care Hospital Pvt. Ltd. in Patalichok, Bagmati Municipality-11, Sarlahi, where banned tablets, including Tramadol, Tentadol and Spazmo, were recovered. The facility's operator, 30-year-old Prajwal Ale of Ishwarpur Municipality-12, Sarlahi, was taken into custody and later handed over to the Area Police Office, Hariban, for further investigation and legal action, police said.
