LALITPUR, AUGUST 23 Members of the House of Representatives have pledged to transition youth advocacy into formal legislative action and establish structured, evidence-based engagement with young people. The commitment was made at a Youth Parliament Dialogue titled 'From Youth Voices to Policy Action', organised by Samanwaya Nepal under its project 'Strengthening Structured Engagement with Parliament in Nepal', with support from the Youth Democracy Network. The dialogue brought together lawmakers, civil society representatives, National Youth Council officials and youth leaders to discuss ways to link grassroots youth priorities with national policymaking. Lawmakers highlighted the need to institutionalise youth participation in parliamentary processes and welcomed research-based recommendations presented by youth fellows. MP Srishti Bhattarai said young people should be given meaningful opportunities to help shape policies rather than merely being consulted on policy matters. MP Amrita BK stressed the need to link youth proposals with implementation and institutional follow-up to ensure long-term impact. MP Kamal Subedi pledged to advocate for the fellows' recommendations in parliamentary committees, saying youth-led initiatives needed a clear pathway into policy, Parliament and institutional action. The programme featured five policy position papers prepared by Samanwaya Fellows, covering parliamentary engagement, youth employment, governance transparency, road safety and civic education. The event concluded with a joint commitment by lawmakers and organisers to establish follow-up mechanisms to ensure the recommendations feed into legislative debates, parliamentary oversight and state planning.
