Depot reach final KATHMANDU: Depot Secondary School and VS Niketan entered the men’s final of the White House Cup third Under-19 National Basketball Tournament. Depot ended Golden Gate’s challenge 55-48 riding on 15 points from Heman Rai while VS Niketan dumped out Kaski 60-57. The finals are scheduled for Monday. Sherpa lifts Holi Cup KATHMANDU: Dorji Tsering Sherpa won the Holi Golf Tournament organised by the Royal Nepal Golf Club on Saturday. Played under Stableford ¾ handicap format, Sherpa accumulated 35 points to win the trophy on count back after he was tied with DIG Neeraj Pun, who was content to second place due to poor back nine that Sherpa. Neeraj SJB Rana won the best gross award with 26 points, while Singha Bahadur Basnet came first in senior section with 32 points. Sandhya Rai scored 32 points to win the ladies section award, ahead of Els Schapendnic, who scored 31 points. Other winners were Charlie Gurung (most birdies), Suman Limbu (longest drive) and Shree Jay Acharya (closest to the pin). Anita claims trophy POKHARA: The 11th South Asian Games team event bronze medallist Punam Gurung beat Anita Gurung 21-9, 21-13 in the in the girls’ final of the second Inter-college Badminton Tournament here on Saturday. Alina Gurung and Barsha Tripathi finished joint third. In the boys’ section final, Anup Gurung defeated Bhugol Gurung 22-20, 21-15, while Mohan Nepali and Niraj Gurung came third. Likewise, Bhugol and Anup teamed up to beat Mohan Nepali and Sahadev Gurung 21-15, 21-10 in the boys’ doubles final. A total of 58 players from 11 colleges took part in the event. Open tennis tourney LALITPUR: Shrija Karki, Nabina Gurung, Anushka Malla and Sagun Thapa entered the women’s singles quarter-finals of the 10th Investment Bank Limited Open Tennis Tournament. In men’s singles, Roshan KC, Chhewang Lama, Santosh Khatri, Yam Gurung, Raju Chhetry, Maheshwor Tiwari, Gaurav Shah, Atmaram Karki and Raju Shrestha advanced to the last 16. A total of 152 men and 26 women players are participating in 11 different events. The winners and runners up in the men and women’s sections will receive Rs 40,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively, while the doubles sections winners will get Rs 20,000 apiece. Unique triumph KATHMANDU: Unique Group of Kirtipur won the inaugural match of the Chakratirtha Cup Seven-A Side Open Football Tournament on Saturday. Unique defeated hosts Unemployeed Youth Group 1-0 after Barshat Gurung’s decider in the 81st minute. A total of 24 teams are participating in the Rs 650,000 tournament where the winner will get Rs 50,000 and the two runners up will take home Rs 30,000 and Rs 15,000 each.
