KATHMANDU, MARCH 13
The Election Commission Nepal has asked political parties and candidates who contested the recent House of Representatives member election to publicly disclose details of their campaign income and expenditure within the legally mandated timeframe.
In a press release issued on Thursday, the commission said candidates under the first-past-the-post (FPTP) system and political parties under the proportional representation (PR) system must submit their campaign income and expenditure reports in the prescribed format within 35 days of the announcement of election results.
According to the commission, candidates under the FPTP system must submit the details to the concerned district election office, while political parties contesting under the PR system must submit their reports directly to the Election Commission.
The commission also stated that political parties and candidates must publicly disclose the campaign income and expenditure details for the information of stakeholders as required by law.
The details can be made public through notice boards of provincial or district election offices, local government offices, political party offices or websites, mass media outlets, or social media platforms, the commission said.
After publishing the details, parties and candidates must submit proof of publication, such as photographs or screenshots, along with the expenditure report to the commission or the respective district election office within the stipulated period.
The commission warned that political parties and candidates who fail to submit or disclose their election expenditure details as required by law will face action in accordance with the Election Offences and Punishment Act 2017.
