KATHMANDU: Nepal Police headquarters today interrogated two deputy superintendents of police for their alleged link to Deepak Shahi alias Babbu, the mastermind who plotted the killing of media baron Jamim Shah. Nepal Police spokesperson Deputy Inspector General Bigyan Raj Sharma said DSPs Ganesh Chand and Arjun Chand were asked to come clean on their connection with Babbu in writing. “Ganesh and Arjun admitted that they were acquainted with the mastermind of the murder and used to telephone him frequently, but claimed they were unaware what he was up to,” added Sharma. “Further investigation is in progress and we would take action against them. We will sack them within a minute if found guilty,” he claimed. He admitted that NP had criminals among its ranks. He maintained that it was unjust to implicate anyone only on the basis of the calls made to a criminal. However, NP did not question DSP Surendra Bahadur Singh as he had spoken to Babbu over phone in the presence of high-level police officials in the course of tracking him down following the shootout in Lazimpat. Another suspect, former DSP Jagadish Chand, has been absconding. He was last seen on Wednesday. Jagadish is believed to have sneaked into India before the police could place him under surveillance. “Special squads of the police are hunting for him. He will be arrested wherever he may be and whatever he may be doing,” added Sharma. “We’re also looking into security lapses that let Jagadish flee.” An official at Metropolitan Police Range, Hanumandhoka, said three other persons, closely associated with those involved in Jamim Shah murder case, were cooperating with investigating officials to locate the place they are taking shelter. Likewise, a source revealed that the landline phones of Crime Investigation Department, NP, and Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority were also frequently used by police officials who were in touch with Babbu. Meanwhile, the police today arrested three more persons, including a woman, for their alleged link to Jamim Shah murder. A police source said one of them hailed from Nuwakot district. “We have held some suspects and they will be exposed to media soon after an interrogation is completed,” said DIG Sharma without giving their names. Earlier, the police had arrested SI Prakash Chhetri, Laxman Dhamala, Roshan Kumar Pandey and Dilip Thapa Magar.
