LALITPUR: Talks to resolve the garbage row could not be held at the Ministry of Local Development today as the agitating locals did not show up for the ministry did not send vehicles to pick them up The government should send vehicles to pick us up to sit for talks. Otherwise, we cannot come there: Agitating local. We are unable to send vehicles for picking them up from their homes as we do not have so many vehicles. And this is not the way that culprits, who should be punished demand vehicles for talks: Government officials. These are the extracts of phone talks between Dr Sumitra Amatya, general manager, Solid Waste Management and Resource Mobilisation Centre and Dhan Bahadur Tamang of Chhatredeurali VDC in Dhading district. Talks to resolve the garbage row was scheduled at the MoLD for today. Tamang conceded that they did not attend the meeting as the ministry failed to send vehicle for them. “The ministry has called us for meeting tomorrow but we are not sure we will attend,” he added. While Dr Amatya said, “We cannot send vehicles for them. They are violating the Public Offense Act. We can mobilise police force to dispose garbage, instead. She claimed, “We will send garbage tomorrow in cooperation with security forces.” It is irrational to ask for government vehicle as public buses are available, said Narendra Prasad Phuyal, member, all-party mechanism from the landfill site affected area. “Political parties are playing double standard in creating problem by manipulating their cadres,” he reasoned. Rameshwor Simkhada, a representative of CPN-ML, said that the locals were bargaining for development project by obstructing garbage disposal.
