KATHMANDU: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Anurag Thakur has promised more help to Nepali cricket. Nepal national cricket team is currently in India to prepare for next month’s ICC World Twenty20 qualifiers. After the devastating earthquake struck Nepal on April 25 damaging sports facilities, the BCCI approved Nepal’s proposal to host the Nepali team for 15 days. Thakur, who observed Nepal’s training at the Dharamshala grounds in Himanchal Pradesh on Wednesday, said he was ready to help Nepal cricket in future as well. “He has asked our CEO (Bhawana Ghimire) to write down things we need so that he can take matters further,” Nepal skipper Paras Khadka quoted Thakur as saying. Thakur also had a brief chat with the team members in his 10-minute stay at the stadium. According to Nepal team’s Technical Analyst Raman Shiwakoti, Thakur said the BCCI wanted to support Nepal in critical situation. “We will support Nepali cricket in future also. We can help Nepali cricketers by providing them with the opportunities to play in Ranji Trophy and other tournaments in India. We can also manage training facilities to individual players,” Shiwakoti quoted Thakur as saying. The Nepali team is preparing for the World T20 Qualifiers to be held in Ireland and Scotland from June 9-27. Nepal will on June 23 leave for UK for the final preparation before playing four-match T20 International series against the Netherlands from June 30. After the World T20 Qualifiers, Nepal are scheduled to play the ICC World Cricket League Championship matches against Scotland on July 29 and 31.
