Michael Schick top-scored with 30 points but could not save Kathmandudes from going down 69-71 to Public Youth Campus (PYC) at the second Annual Father Watrin Men’s Basketball Championship. The teams were tied at 59 points in normal time but Bikram Joshi’s two three-pointers and Sanjay Prajapati’s four points made the win possible for PYC in the additional five minutes. Schick netted five three-pointers for Kathmandudes and Prem Sundar netted 26 points for the winning team. With the result, PYC finished first from Pool D and set up a quarter-final match against Everest South Siders, who qualified finishing runners-up from Pool A. Ideal Model School also entered the quarters finishing runners-up from Pool D and will face Kathmandu Don Bosco, who topped Pool A.

In Pool B match, David Bobalik netted 34 points as leaders Rhododendron International Boarding School (RIBS) outplayed KAB4 106-74 to advance to the round of last eight. RIBS will play Pool C runners-up Galaxian in the quarters. Kunga Gurung netted 30 points for RIBS.

Also, advancing were Pool C leaders Himalayan White House International College (WHWIC), who beat the Galaxian 92-58 on Saturday. The last year’s losing finalists will now take on Ace Flyers, who finished runners-up from Pool B. The 16-day event has been organised by Godavari Alumni Association (GAA) in association with The Himalayan Times at GAA Hall. The quarter-finals are slated for July 5 at the same venue. The semi-finals and the final will be held at St Xavier’s School.
