KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai said he was seeking a new force for constructing an ideology to change the Nepali society. Addressing the inaugural function of the New Force Formation Campaign here today, leader Bhattarai said he, who was born in a remote village in Gorkha and became the chief executive of the nation, had no greed for power. He said he was committed to putting together a new force to dedicate his life after the age of 60 years for the development and prosperity of the country. “The Constitution that has been promulgated from the Constituent Assembly can be compared to a half-filled glass, that is, it can be called half-filled or half empty. It should be made complete by filling the remaining half through Constitution amendment,” he said. Stating that the Nepali Congress, the Praja Parishad, the CPN-UML and the UCPN-Maoist have carried out historic works at different times in history when these parties were at their height, he said none of these parties, however, were able to construct an ideology consistent with the present age and times. This has prompted the formation of a new force, he added. Leader Bhattarai said home work was being carried out to bring the ideology and principles suitable to Nepal. Chairman of the Terai Madhes Democratic Party, Mahantha Thakur, said the Madhes agitation was launched after their demands for rights through the legitimate way were denied. Chairman of the Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal, Upendra Yadav, said democracy could not be inclusive unless the state gets rid of the mentality of one language and one costume. “The people of Madhes are simply demanding implementation of the eight-point and the 22-point agreements reached with the state in the past. The new force should break the ‘one language, one costume’ mentality,” he added. Nepali Congress leader Pradip Giri suggested moving ahead with the commitment of the welfare of people. Also expressing their views on the occasion former minister Ram Chandra Jha, human rights campaigner Padma Ratna Tuladhar, Gopal Dahit of the Tharuhat Tarai Party, former president of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) Rabi Bhakta Shrestha, senior theatre artist Ashok Sharma , Chaitanya Subba, Praveen Mishra, Keshav Man Shakya, Khagendra Sangraula, Raju Nepali, Keshav Dahal and artist Pradip Dewan, among others underlined that the new force should be guided by the principle of transparency and good conduct.
