COLOMBO: Colleagues and relatives are urging Sri Lanka's government to conduct a new investigation into the fate of two activists who disappeared four years ago. About 100 activists and relatives demonstrated Thursday in front of Colombo's main railway station demanding the new probe. The activists — Lalith Kumar Weeraraju and Kugan Muruganandan — went missing on December 9, 2011, while organizing a news conference to mark Human Rights Day in the country's former civil war zone in the north. Colleagues from their organisation, the Movement for People's Struggle, accused the military of abducting them. The military denied the allegation. Sri Lanka is facing international criticism for failing to properly investigate alleged abductions, attacks and killings of political opponents, activists and journalists during and after the civil war, which ended in 2009.
