Two held with foreign currencies worth Rs 7.7m

Kathmandu, February 14 Police have arrested two persons in possession of undeclared US dollars from the Tribhuvan International Airport. According to the Metropolitan Police Office, Anil Yonjan, 34, bearing passport number 1994450 and Ayush Chhetri, 22, holding passport number 05647881 were held with foreign currencies, including USD 64,800, UAE Dirham 16,620 and Qatari Riyal 5,500 yesterday at around 9:15 pm. Yonjan and Chhetri of Bhimsengola, Kathmandu, were about to board an Air Arabia flight bound for Sharjah of UAE when police arrested them. The MPO informed that Yonjan had concealed USD 35,000 in a handbag while Chhetri was possessing USD 29,800, UAE Dirham 16,620 and Qatari Riyal 5,500. The foreign currencies are worth around Rs 7.7 million. It was not immediately clear as to why they were trying to take the foreign currencies to the UAE, said officials. They have been sent to the Revenue Investigation Department, Harihar Bhawan, Lalitpur for further investigation into the case. Fugitive convict nabbed KATHMANDU: The Central Investigation Bureau on Sunday arrested a person, who had been absconding after being convicted of foreign employment fraud. SP Dibesh Lohani said Raj Gurung, 36, of Sunsari and currently residing in Kathmandu, was held from Chabahil. The Foreign Employment Tribunal had sentenced him to 1.6 years in jail, along with a fine of Rs 150,000.Gurung had cheated Rohit Giri, the complainant of the case, out of Rs 170,000 with a promise of employment in Dubai in 2013. The tribunal had also ordered Gurung to repay Giri the amount he had defrauded.
