KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Bal Krishna Khand has claimed that the KP Sharma Oli-led government will topple on its own and a new government will be formed in the leadership of Sher Bahadur Deuba. Deuba has been recently elected as the president of Nepali Congress. According to Khand, who won elections for the party's central committee membership from the Deuba panel, the government cannot be strong unless it is led by the largest party Nepali Congress. Speaking at an interaction with media at the Reporters Club, Khand said Deuba will lead the government as the leader of the largest party's top leader. He opined that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli should pave the way for the formation of new national unity government, maintaining that the Nepali Congress will not join the Oli-led government. Dubbing the ruling alliance as unnatural with weak base, Khand said the incumbent Oli government will topple on its own. We don't aim at changing the government, Khand stated, but before we make any decision this government will topple due to its own burden and contradictions within it. 'Govt leadership secondary' Speaking at the same programme, UCPN-Maoist Spokesman Dinanath Sharma pointed out the need for consensus government for nation building but said its leadership was secondary. Sharma argued that his party is talking about the consensus government only because the participation of Nepali Congress will make the implementation of new constitution easier. But the Maoist party will not be part of any game to bring down the incumbent government, he added. 'No unethical practice' Information and Communications Minister Sherdhan Rai, who is a CPN-UML leader, there was need for a national consensus government to address many issues in the country. Referring to the Nepali Congress, Rai said no party remain outside the government as a mere bystander. Listing implementation of the new constitution, post-earthquake reconstruction, demarcation of provincial boundaries, and local and elections as top priorities, Minister Rai said, for these things to be done the national consensus government was called for. 'Government wants to discuss the matter with all,' he said. 'This government wants to move ahead with support from the people and the Parliament,' he stated, but doesn't want to get indulged in any unethical practice to prolong its life. Minister Rai informed that Nepal will make agreements with China on transit, fuel supply and energy among other issues during the Prime Minister's upcoming China visit. 'Stern agitation after Holi if...' Mahendra Raya Yadav, the chairman of Tarai Madhesh Sadbhwana Party, opined that the Prime Minister's foreign trip will not benefit Nepalis before the Madhes issues are resolved. He claimed that China has not given priority to Prime Minister's visit to China. Saying both the government and the opposition have failed, Yadav said unless the issues of Madhes are resolved the change in the leadership of government will not make any difference to the Madhesi parties. Yadav, however, predicted the fall of the Oli-led government sooner than later. If our demands are not met, Yadav warned, the Madhesi parties will launch a stern agitation after the Holi festival.
