Pakistani president Pervez Musharraf has promised that his government will provide basic amenities for all by 20-07, reports Online news age-ncy. Addressing a high level meeting in Rawalpindi yesterday, Musharraf said provision of civic amenities of like water, power, gas besides facilities like education would not only help alleviate poverty but also generate employment opportunities for thousands of people. Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said the government was giving top priority to development projects to help ensure economic and social help for the people that would ensure completion of these projects and provision of basic amenities to the people by 2007.
All the projects are being monitored. Maj (Retd) Tahir Iqbal, environment minister said the concerned departments had been directed to ensure provision of safe drinking water to people as soon as possible so water borne diseases could be eliminated. He said Musharraf had urged that filtration plants be set up by 2007 in each village with a population of about 3,000. He said the ministry has agreed to install 121 filtration plants.
