Magnitude 6.9 earthquake hits Myanmar, tremors felt in Nepal also

LONDON/KATHMANDU:  An earthquake of magnitude 6.9 struck in northwest Myanmar on Wednesday, 100 km (62 miles) north-northwest of the city of Monywa, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said. The quake struck at a depth of 135 km, it said. The earthquake was also felt in Kathmandu and other parts of Nepal at around 7:45 pm on Wednesday. The tremor was felt in eastern and central districts of Nepal, as well as Bangladesh, Lhasa, east and north India and Bhutan. Around a year ago, on April 25 last year, Nepal was rattled by the magnitude-7.6 earthquake, killing around 9,000 people. Details to follow...
