Jhapa-XI advance to last eight

Pokhara, April 13 Jhapa-XI defeated Rupandehi-XI 3-1 and advanced to the quarter-finals of the Manakamana Cable Car Pokhara Cup International Football Tournament here today. Karna Limbu, Devendra Tamang and Dilen Moktan scored a goal each for Jhapa, while Drona Thapa scored the consolation goal for Rupandehi in the match played at the Pokhara Stadium. Devendra Tamang of the winning team was named the man-of-the-match. Karna Limbu opened the scoring for Jhapa in the 32nd minute before Drona Thapa levelled the scores before half time. At a time when the match was heading towards a draw, Jhapa produced two goals in the last five minutes to seal the victory. Devendra Tamang restored Jhapa’s lead in the 85th minute before Dilen Moktan scored the team’s third goal in the injury time. On Thursday, hosts Pokhara-XI will take on Dharan Football Club in the first-round encounter. A total of 12 teams are taking part in the tournament organised by Kaski District Football Association under the sponsorship of Manakamana Darshan Pvt Ltd. The winners will receive Rs 555,555, while the runners-up will get Rs 255,555. The player of the tournament will receive a motorcycle, while the best striker, forward, defender, goalkeeper and coach will get Rs 15,000 each.
