Parki wins Dhangadhi Half Marathon

Dhangadhi, April 13 Gopi Chand Parki of Nepal APF Club won the title of the Gionee Dhangadhi Half Marathon edging past two Tribhuvan Army Club athletes here today. Parki completed the 21-km distance in one hour, nine minutes and 35 seconds to win the gold medal along with the cash prize of Rs 51,000. Parki finished just one second ahead of second-place Lal Bahadur Dhami of TAC, while another Armyman Khagendra Bhat was third in 1: 10:01. Dhami and Bhat received Rs 25,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively. A total of 109 athletes — including three each women and above-50 players — completed the race out of the 550 participants. The race started from Dhangadhi Stadium and went through Chauraha, Geta and Traffic Chowk before finishing at the stadium. In the 5-km tricycle race, Hari Kumal, Suraj Lal Chaudhary and Ram Chandra Joshi claimed top three spots and received Rs 5,000, Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000 respectively. In corporate category, Jhalak Doulyal came first ahead of Nirmal Lamsal and Govinda Baniya. Around 200 participants from corporate and media houses took part in the race. The event was organised by Dhangadhi Jaycees on the occasion of New Year.
