Pokhara, April 19 Dharan Football Club advanced to the semi-finals of the fifth Manakamana Cable Car Pokhara Cup Football Tournament here at the Pokhara Stadium today. Dharan FC defeated India’s Football Association of Orissa (FAO) 3-0 riding on goals from Tirtha Basnet, Laxman Ruchal and Jimmy. Bartaman Rai of Dharan was named the man-of-the-match. Dharan FC will now play against TAC for a place in the final on Thursday. After a first half that failed to produce a goal, Dharan slammed three goals in the latter half to register a convincing victory against FAO, who replaced another Indian team, Delhi United FC at the last moment. Basnet put Dharan ahead in the 59th minute before Ruchal doubled the tally in the 75th and Jimmy put the issue beyond doubt with the team’s third goal six minutes before time. Dharan FC coach Subas KC said the team played good football and they would repeat the performance in the semi-final match. FAO coach SK Manjur said they were happy with their maiden appearance in Nepal’s tournament. “It was a new experience for our U-22 players. It was a good outing for them as they got a chance to play against a strong team from Nepal. And I am happy they performed well,” said Manjur. On Wednesday, Laxmi Hyundai Manang Marshyangdi Club will take on APF Club in the first semi-final match at the same venue.
