Kathmandu, April 25 The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority today issued a press release stating that its action against journalist and Sajha Yatayat Chairperson Kanak Mani Dixit was within its jurisdiction, as he is a public post holder. The CIAA added that it was unfortunate that Dixit himself created the necessity to arrest him by repeatedly defying the CIAA’s requests and notices. The anti-graft body stated that Dixit ignored CIAA’s calls and summons continued for over four months. CIAA stated that it expected more from a high profile, responsible and intellectual person while contributing to the observance of rule of law in the country. It said if Dixit believed he was innocent, investigation and the proceedings of the court were actually the opportunities for him to prove his innocence and disprove the accusations made against him. CIAA said it was free of biases and enmity of any kind towards anyone and allegations against it were totally baseless. The commission said it initiated investigation against Dixit not because he was a journalist but due to the multiple complaints received him as a public office-bearer. CIAA added Dixit’s arrest for investigation had been justified by the Special Court decision to continue with the investigation by remanding Dixit in judicial custody. “Special Court decision has motivated us to fight corruption with even greater dedication in the coming days,” it added. Meanwhile, Dixit, who is undergoing treatment for hypertension, remained hospitalised today. Journalist Kunda Dixit, who visited his brother Kanak Mani in the hospital, said brothers and sisters-in-law of Kanak Mani were allowed to visit him for the first time today. Before this only Kanak Mani’s was allowed to visit him, said Kunda Dixit. He said Kanak Mani’s blood pressure was fluctuating but his spirit was up.
