PM directs civil servants for result-oriented performance

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Sunday directed government secretaries and top-level civil servants to ensure result-oriented performance. Inviting secretaries of all ministries and top government officials at the Prime Minister's Office three days after assuming office, the new Prime Minister also directed them to submit 'result-oriented' annual plans of action for their respective offices within three days. 'We have very short time and it is challenging, but there are many things to do,' Dahal said, 'I should get concrete plans by specifying priorities of the ministries and plans of action (for those priorities), via the Chief Secretary within three days .' 'Become more result-oriented than process-driven,' the the PM's secretariat quoted Dahal in a statement after the meeting, 'Fix your goals and deliver results (based on them).' Meanwhile, the Prime Minister told the secretaries to prioritise Constitution implementation, conclusion of the peace process, post-earthquake reconstruction, good governance, poverty alleviation and prosperity among others while carrying out the duties, according to his secretariat. 'Change in political course and the government leadership are frequent,' he said, 'But, the national resolutions do not change much. They should not.' The secretaries have also been directed to prepare an implementation calendars for the plans of action, according to Dahal's personal secretary Ramesh Malla. Dahal warned the officials against indulgence in promotion and transfer, foreign visit, formal events like seminars and other forms of personal benefits. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister also directed the civil servants to implement a four-point directive he issued while assuming office last Thursday.
