KATHMANDU: The health of tabala maestro Pandit Hom Nath Upadhyaya, who has liver cancer, has deteriorated. On September 6, he was shifted to the ICU of Om Hospital & Research Centre, Chabahil where he has been admitted since August 31. “Chemotherapy had started on September 3. Guruji was being given one course of chemotherapy in four parts. But he couldn’t take it today (September 6) and it had to be stopped. Then he was admitted to ICU,” Upadhyaya’s student and tabala player Shanti Bahadur Rayamajhi informed. “His condition worsened in the wee hours today. He had to be put on diapers as he couldn’t control his bodily motions.” He was diagnosed with liver cancer about a month ago. He was fragile and not undergoing chemotherapy until September 3. And the chemotherapy he was receiving “was not effective as per doctors”. Pt Upadhyaya is a scholar, educator and a tabala maestro. The 73-year-old virtuoso has dedicated more than 40 years to eastern classical music. READ ALSO:
