KATHMANDU: Police on Thursday arrested one more trader on the charge of electricity theft by tampering with power metres from Kathmandu. The 40-year-old Buddha Kumar Lama, a permanent resident of Lisankhu-9 of Sindhupalchok district, was arrested from Sukedhara of Kathmandu by a special team deployed from the Metropolitan Crime Division. He is the operator of Buddha Washing Centre in Sukedhara. Police also seized an electricity metre and two metre seals from his possession. Meanwhile, the MCD handed over the suspect to the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, for further investigation and action. The MCD also informed that it was carrying out the crackdown on similar fraudulent activities. In this connection, a plastic industry in Kapan, a three-wheeler charging station in Chabahil and a bottle industry in Imadol were raided in past two days. Police, however, failed to nab their operators. Earlier, police on Sunday had arrested 16 persons including 12 Nepal Electricity Authority employees for tampering with electricity metres and defrauding the government-owned power monopoly for last 12 years.
