Bajura, February 1 A cooperative located at Bajura headquarters Martadi has been collecting millions of rupees without registration. It has come to light that some businessmen and so-called prestigious people from Martadi have been collecting millions in the name of Sundar Badimalika Multipurpose Cooperative without registering it with the Cooperative Division Office. One share holder said that though transaction could not be done without registration, money was being collected for the past ten months. The cooperative is involved in transactions with its own passbooks and stamps. The cooperative has more than 200 share holders. They are depositing amounts ranging from Rs 100 to Rs 10,000 per day. The cooperative receives up to three lakh rupees per day. The amount is collected in the name of cooperative Chairman Padam Baduwal and Treasurer Amrita Singh. It is learnt that the cooperative has collected over Rs 30 million till date. A share holder, who has a deposit of Rs 3 lakh, is preparing to withdraw his money after finding out that the cooperative is unlawful. “I deposited money after some prestigious people asked me to do so. But, later, I came to know that it was illegal,” a share holder said on the condition of anonymity. Another share holder, who has been depositing Rs 100 per day, is preparing to file a case against the cooperative. “They have not issued certificate. When we ask, they threaten,” a trader said. Chairman Baduwal, however, said that the registration process was delayed due to some technical reasons. “We have kept records perfectly. Anyone can see it any time”, he added. Division Cooperative Office Dipayal Chief Govind Pandey said that it was wrong to operate the cooperative without registration. He asked the concerned agency to take action against the cooperative. “It is not our responsibility to regulate and monitor the cooperative. It is the DAO’s job,” Pandey said. District Cooperative Association Bajura said that it was illegal to collect millions without registering the cooperative. “But, we cannot say anything in this regard”, said its chair Nir Bahadur Shahi. Bajura CDO Devendra Lamichhane pledged to carry out investigation before taking action against the cooperative.
