Prime Minister Sushila Karki inaugurated the Tamu Lhosar festivities at Tundikhel on Monday, December 29, 2025. The Tamu Lhosar festival, marking the New Year of the Gurung community, falls on December 30-a date recognized as a public holiday by the government. It is celebrated annually on the 15th day of the Nepali month of Posh. The Gurung community follows a 12-year time cycle, with each year represented by one of twelve distinct animals, known as lho.
