Kathmandu, February 12 A Nepal-India energy secretary-level talks, which is also called Joint Steering Committee (JSC) meeting, is going to kick off in the Capital from Monday. Prior to the two-day JSC meeting, the Joint Working Group (JWG) — a technical committee of Nepal and Indian Power Ministry and line agencies — will finalise the issues that need to be adopted and reviewed in the JSC meeting. The JSC meeting is scheduled to discuss the progress of cross-border transmission line projects, Nepal-India joint venture hydroelectricity generation project and other generation projects being developed through Indian investment and review the power trade between the two countries, according to the Ministry of Energy officials. The meeting will review the progress of Muzaffarpur-Dhalkebar 400 kV cross-border transmission line and its status. Cross-border system strengthening works of Kataiya-Kusaha 132kV transmission line, Raxaul-Parwanipur 132kV will also be discussed in the meeting. Likewise, discussions related to the planned new Butwal-Gorakhpur 400kV transmission line and transmission system for Arun-III Hydro Project, Upper Karnali Hydro Project and Pancheshwar Hydro Project will be held in the meeting. “Bilateral exchange of ‘technical know-how’ in the power sector regarding various operational and commercial issues on interconnecting the electricity grids of India and Nepal is also on the agenda of the JSC meeting,” an official privy to the matter told The Himalayan Times. This is the fourth round of meeting between the energy secretaries of Nepal and India. JSC meeting is held every alternate year in Nepal and India. The meeting will also fix the date of fifth JWG and JSC meetings, according to the officials.
