Kathmandu, March 6 The United Democratic Madhesi Front today condemned the killing of protesters in Saptari and decided to call a general strike across Madhes on Tuesday and Wednesday to protest the killing. An emergency meeting of the front held after four protesters were killed in police firing in Saptari today, took a decision to this effect, according to a press release issued by the UDMF. The front stated that violent acts committed by the state violated human rights and international humanitarian law. “The UDMF condemns the government’s undemocratic and inhuman violent acts,” the front stated in its release. UDMF held CPN-UML responsible for the violence in Saptari today, stating that inflammatory remarks against Madhes and Madhesis by leaders of UML had sparked violence. The front demanded treatment for the injured and action against those responsible for the killing of protesters. Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal Chair Upendra Yadav said the Federal Alliance had already decided to withdraw support to the government and the same would be announced tomorrow. Sadbhawana Party Chair Rajendra Mahato said UDMF would hold another meeting tomorrow to decide whether or not to withdraw support to the government. “We will have to communicate in writing our decision to withdraw support to the government,” he added.
