Kathmandu, May 7 A programme was organised by Nepal Lokbarta Samaj here yesterday for the launch of cultural expert Satyamohan Joshi’s book ‘Discourse on Folk’ written in English, and ‘Dhimal Lokbarta ra Lokjivan’ in Nepali. During the programme, Joshi said Nepal’s unique and diverse cultures had become its identity in the world, and it was the duty of all to preserve them. Joshi said that Nepal’s cultural preservation endeavours had entered a new era with the formulation of a regulation on culture in 1967. He further added that the country’s pride rested with the various cultures of people in Nepal, who speak over 100 different languages. On the occasion, Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Shankar Adhikari said Nepal’s cultural richness is part of the country’s identity, and added that the multi-cultural and multilingual nature of the Nepali society was putting greater pressure on the state to uphold this identity. The programme was presided over by the Samaj’s Chairperson Tulasi Diwas. Littérateurs Abhi Subedi and Professor Chudamani Bindu were among those present.
