Kathmandu DFO had set the target of tree plantation in 0.5 hectares of land

Kathmandu District Forest Office has succeeded in meeting 98 per cent target on forest conservation in the fiscal 2016-17.
A target-oriented contract was signed between Department of Forest and Kathmandu DFO to increase accountability of forest administration.
According to District Forest Officer Indra Prasad Sapkota he recently submitted the progress report for fiscal 2016/17 to the Department of Forest. The report shows it succeeded in meeting cent per cent target on wildfire management.
It also prepared sustainable forest management action plan for 14 out of 15 community forests and implemented them. Likewise, against the target of producing 10,000 cubit feet timber it produced 14,492 cubic feet. Similarly, 8,263 cubic feet timber was produced from collaborative and private forests of Kathmandu against the target of 3,000 cubic feet.
DFO Kathmandu had set the target of tree plantation in 0.5 hectares of land. However, it accomplished tree plantation in 12.36 hectares of land.
According to the DFO Kathmandu, 3,259 trees were planted on the banks of rivers, roadsides and government land although it had set the target to plant only 1,000 trees. Twenty incidents of wildlife rescue were registered while the target was just 10 for a year. Similarly, 100 per cent target was met for distribution of plants to individual households.
DFO Kathmandu has renewed the action plans of 14 community forests.
